October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Today people walked through Lima to raise awareness for those victims, because you never know just who might be silently suffering.
Each year around 1.3 million woman are abused, and a woman is victimized by her partner every 52 seconds. Many times children suffer as well. Last year Crossroads Crisis Center in Lima served 984 children. That same number of purple ribbons are tied to trees in Town Square to remember those victims. One way to prevent domestic violence is to always be open with others and your partner.
Crossroads Crisis Center helps women and their kids get out of abusive relationships. Experts say it's important for women to be assertive and set boundaries. Never try to minimize the abuse. And remember, it is always almost better to leave your partner than it is to try and stay and make it work.
Learning how to prevent and stop domestic violence is the only way to try and stop it in our communities.
