Need for Blood Donations Year Round Issue

Posted: Updated:

The need for blood is a continual need all year long and the American Red Cross is asking the community for their continued support.

It takes 500 units a blood a day to supply the 60 hospitals in the Ohio and Indiana Blood services region and one person's donation can essential help 3 people.

A single blood donation can be separated into three components, platelets, plasma and red cells.

For example an accident victim will need red cells, a cancer patient platelets and a burn victim needing plasma.

For that one hour of your time you may have helped save three lives.

If you are interested in donating blood you can take part in the annual day of caring on Tuesday October 16th at the chapter house from 7 am to 7 pm. Contact the Allen County Chapter of the American Red Cross for more details.
