For Kathy Lanier, this old yellow van could be a lifesaver some day.
She's outfitted it for a weekend of camping at Camp Clay.
But this experience isn't just recreational. It's a learning experience.
The "Bug Out" at Camp Clay west of Van Wert was a chance to rough it a bit.... sort of like scouting for adults with a survivalist aspect.
Speakers were brought in during the weekend to talk to campers.
Van Wert Red Cross disaster chairman Mark Klausing talked about how communication is important during a disaster.
He says the June 29th wind storm that knocked out the power in Van Wert was more widespread than expected and affected their plans for dealing with it.
And learning to survive is something that brought John Ellzey out to the bug out.
He camped under a tarp in a makeshift tent.
For more information on survival skills, Camp Clay director Clint Myers has a website with more information.
