What do "The Walking Dead," "Frankenweenie" and "Scooby Doo" all have in common? The answer, they were all comic books before they hit the big screen.

Alter Ego Comics welcomed residents to their Halloween ComicFest on Saturday, where they gave away free comics and judged a costume contest. Owner Marc Bowker hopes to bring horror and supernatural comics to light, and let people know that comics go beyond superheroes.
