The Ohio Senate voted 27 to 6 Wednesday to up the speed limit to 70 miles per hour on non-urban interstate highways. Don Straley travels over an hour half to work on I-75 to Toledo and says the increased speed limit would be a welcomed sight for his commute.
Looking at a map of the state you can clearly see the interstate highways around the larger cities will remain 65 and even drop to 55 in the most congested area's. But the speed limit going up to 70 is concern for Evelyn Smith a local official who tracks fatal crashes.
Smith adds there are already so many challenges on the roadways, a higher speed limit just adds to that list.
