Health Care Forum

Posted: Updated:

Understanding the Affordable Health Care Act, otherwise known as ObamaCare can be a daunting prospect.

Tonight, the League of Women Voters of the Lima area hosted a Health Care Forum to help the public better understand the changes that have occurred or are about to happen.

For Kathleen Klett, understanding the Affordable Health Care Act is confusing.

She and her husband suffer from various health problems and she wanted to know more about how ObamaCare would affect her.

The League of Women Voters brought in some experts to help explain to the public what is in the act.

Dr. Susan Hubbell, a member of the Lima Allen County Academy of Medicine is concerned that many people aren't up to speed on what the act means to them.

Dr. Wilfred Ellis, infectious disease specialist believes this could affect the medical community's ability to treat patients effectively.

Deborah Steele, statewide advocacy coordinator for the Universal Health Care Action Network of Ohio says they are lobbying for expansion of medicaid in Ohio, something the governor favors, but it still has to go through the state legislature.

Beginning in 2014, all Americans will have to have health insurance or face penalties if they don't.
