The last Sunday before Easter, marks the start of Holy Week for many churches, and was celebrated as Palm Sunday this weekend. Palm Sunday celebrates Jesus entering into Jerusalem. As congregation members at St. Michael The Archangel Parish downtown church gathered for mass, members received palm leaves.
Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, which incorporates three of the largest religious events, The Last Supper, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Palm Sunday ties into another religious celebration, Ash Wednesday. The palm leaves used during Sunday's service are saved and then burned, creating the ash needed for Ash Wednesday.
