Van Vert, OH -
Saturday's fire, that destroyed the TL Express building in Van Wert, continues to be investigated. The building housed Vantage Career Center's trucking program, however the impact on the program is minimal.
With the fire originating high in the ceiling space, Van Wert fire crews arrived just after Noon on Saturday, finding flames shooting through the roof. With no sprinkler system or smoke alarms, on top of low water pressure from the hydrants, the fire destroyed the building, causing nearly one million dollars in damage.
While saddened by the event, Vantage Career Center Superintendent Staci Kaufman is relieved with the timing. The future for Vantage's trucking program is promising thanks to Vantage's new facility. The new facility will house the trucks used for training, and a nearby lot will be used for testing.
While no Vantage Career Center trucks were damaged in the fire, the school did see a loss. Vantage lost nearly $4,000 in classroom material including learning DVDs. Vantage Career Center was going to wait until Spring to move into their new facility, but looks to move in as soon as possible, waiting to remove the construction equipment and trailers that currently sit in the testing lot.
