Kindness, politeness, respect and generosity. All of these terms are being used to describe civility, something the city of Wapakoneta is considering. Tuesday night, residents and business owners were welcomed to discuss the possibility of bringing a civility program to the area.
The idea of a civility program was developed in 2003 in Duluth, Minnesota, where residents stressed the importance of being civil, something John Poppe says is quite simple. Poppe says civility projects have helped many government organizations reach better results, and believes civility starts within residents and organizations before spreading throughout the entire community.
Tuesday night's meeting was the first of its kind in Wapakoneta; however, Poppe hopes interest grows and a civility program is kicked off.
