Change of Plea in Mercer Co. Double Fatal

Posted: Updated:

A Coldwater man today pleaded no contest in Mercer County Common Pleas Court to four of the nine charges filed against him as the result of a double fatal accident in July of last year.

Ryan Billenstein was found guilty of two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, one count of aggravated vehicular assault and operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Prior to the accident, Billenstein had been pulled over by Coldwater police after an officer noticed he had been driving erratically.

He was given a warning and sent on his way.

A half an hour later, the car Billenstein was driving crashed at SR 119 and Fleetfoot road.

That crash left 21 year old Vincent Gragorace and 22 year old Craig Gengler dead at the scene.

A passenger in Billenstein's vehicle, Bethany Wentworth was seriously injured.

Billenstein remains free on bond pending sentencing scheduled for May first.
