AEP to begin aerial inspections of power lines

Posted: Updated:

If you see a low flying helicopter in the next few weeks do not be alarmed. American Electric Power is starting their aerial patrols of power lines across the state.

Flights will begin in our area as soon as this Friday and continue through April 18th, weather permitting from 8 am to 5 pm. AEP will be using a burgundy and white chopper with silver stripes. They will be flying around 50 to 100 feet above the lines and traveling 40 to 45 miles per hour. They are inspecting their high voltage lines and may circle around an area several times to check the condition of electrical equipment.

Customers with questions or concerns about aerial inspections should contact AEP Ohio's customer solutions center at 1-800- 672-2231.
