Highway Patrol Takes Initiatives For Construction Worker Safety

In the short time that construction workers have been on the job, they have already dealt with the danger of car accidents.
Project Engineer for the I-75 and State Route 309 construction, Luke Johansen, says working alongside heavy traffic means he and his co-workers have to be more aware.
Ohio State Highway Patrol is trying to implement "Quick Clear", an initiative requesting drivers in minor accidents pull over to the side of the road immediately.
Zemelka says the "Quick Clear" initiative would have been helpful last Saturday, when highway patrol says a distracted driver came upon a crash on I-75 causing additional back-ups. He says additional construction makes cleaning up car accidents a challenge.
ODOT workers hope the "Quick Clear" initiative will help keep themselves and drivers safe.
Overnight closures between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. shutting down all lanes of traffic on State Route 117 and State Route 309 in the area of I-75 interchange will occur over 4 consecutive nights beginning Monday, April 22 and continuing through Thursday, April 25.
