Lima Ohio -
A moment of silence started off Saturdays run for the Urban Minority Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Outreach Program (UMADOP). Susan DeNies taking part in the moment of silence and to count her blessings as her brother and friend both ran in the marathon. While concerned for the safety of everyone involved, as a runner she also thought about their frustrations as many people were unable to finish the race.
Runner and event coordinator Jasondra Upthegrove chose not to reschedule the run following the Boston bombing, as the presence of patrols and security helped to alleviate fears. When asked about any fears while running in Saturday's race, DeNies said she feels safe, as a bombing in Lima is highly unlikely.
