Wapakoneta, Ohio -
Mercer County boasts the lowest unemployment rate in the state. Auglaize County has the fourth lowest. Even so, economic development leaders say there are plenty of good jobs left unfilled.
In an effort to fill those jobs, economic development leaders started the Hometown Opportunity initiative. A website, similar to monster.com was created with a focus on finding potential employees positions in the community. Mercer County economic development director Jared Ebbing says many people have moved to bigger cities in search of work. He says this website proves that there are jobs in small towns.
Since February, nearly 400 jobs have been posted to www.hometownopportunity.com and 2200 people have connected to the site. Engineering, manufacturing and health care professionals are the most in demand.
