Wapakoneta, Ohio -
Wapakoneta junior Austin Drake says there has been a real bullying problem at his school. But Drake is a member of Gatekeepers-- a group trained to identify the signs of bullying and the red flags that come before a suicide attempt. Drake says new anti bullying initiatives are improving the culture of the school.
To further reinforce these improvements, Gatekeepers is teaming up with the Partnership for Violence Free Families to educate students on Suicide Prevention Day.
During each lunch period, the group ran a student produced public service announcement, and played games to raise awareness. Professionals from the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board say these events are important because high school can be an especially difficult time in a person's life.
About 40 students are part of Gatekeepers. The group meets once a month.
