If you have grown up in the area you should be no stranger the Lima Teddy Bear Fund. Your child, grandchild or even you, yourself may have gotten one of these lovable animals during a hospital stay.
The Teddy Bear Fund has been around since the 1940's making sure that a free teddy bear is in the arms of a child while in the hospital. The Teddy Bear Fund is now managed by the Allen Lima Leadership Class of 2005 and they have teamed up with local restaurant chain Applebee's to raise dollars to keep the bears in the care of sick children. Each bear costs about $2.25 and an estimated 1,000 bears are handed out monthly at Lima Memorial Health Systems and St. Rita's Medical Center thanks to the generosity of others.
Applebee's patrons can donate a dollar to have a bear put up at the restaurant and for every dollar you donate Applebee's will give you a "one dollar" coupon for you to use at your next visit. The fundraiser runs through July 28th at both Lima locations.
