Quick recovery for corn

Posted: Updated:

A quick recovery for some crops that were damaged by recent severe weather. Ohio State University Extension Agent Curtis Young says many of the corn fields in Van Wert that were damaged by strong winds earlier this month have rebounded.

Stalks in many fields were either blown over or snapped. Young says, fortunately many of the bent stalks have stood back up on their own. He says corn is currently in the pollination stage, and if the weather continues to cooperate, there is great potential for a high number of kernels in each ear. However, there's one type of corn that is not responding quite as well.

Young adds that many fields are already 10 to 11 feet tall. Those heights hadn't been reached in the last few summers because of drought conditions.
