Newborn infants in Ohio will undergo one more screening test before they're released from the hospital.
The Ohio Department of Health this past week began screening infants for Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disorder.
The disorder is also known as "Bubble Boy disease" where the child would develop life threatening infections.
It's estimated SCID occurs in one in every 40 thousand to 100 thousand live births.
The Ohio Department of Health laboratory uses the same newborn screening specimens already collected to test for 35 other rare disorders.
There is no extra cost for the SCID screening.
