A new rule is expected to increase the employment of
individuals with disabilities.
Angie Herzog of Marimor Industries in Lima explained the change today. She says recent updates to The American's with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act introduced new hiring goals for federal contractors
and subcontractors. The rule establishes a nationwide goal that at
least 7% of the workforce should be qualified individuals
Critics say the new rule undermines a person's right
to privacy concerning having a disability. However, under the new rule,
people can choose whether to voluntarily disclose disabilities. The
changes also include new policies to increase the hiring of veterans.
The rules go into effect in about six months.
