Allen County, OH -
A man who broke into a vehicle and then struck a man with a van while trying to escape the scene - was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday.
Kenneth Richardson will serve time for an amended charge of robbery, which is a second degree felony. Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey Reed sentenced him to eight years in prison, but after five years Richardson will be allowed to apply for parole. Back in December of 2012, Richardson broke into Gregory Henderson's vehicle at the Husky Lima Refinery. Henderson came outside and saw Richardson in his vehicle, after that a fight broke out between the two men. Richardson then got into a van and tried to drive away but ended up hitting Henderson. Henderson ended up in the hospital with serious injuries. He almost lost his leg and it took him weeks to recover. Henderson says a $20.00 radio was not worth all the pain and suffering he endured.
Richardson did apologize for his actions, but Henderson wasn't buying it. The judge also ordered Richardson to pay $1,800 in restitution to the victim.
