C.A.R.T. Training

Posted: Updated:
Perry Township, Allen County -

The Perry Township Fire Department is training firefighters in C.A.R.T. or Comprehensive Agriculture Rescue Trailer, a grain rescue simulator which practices trapping people in grain in a controlled environment to handle the emergencies.

One fireman, Todd Gardner, who acted as the victim says this is his second time going through cart and he says it is an intensive, slow process and a good refresher, but also an educational experience.

Now that it is harvest season, Fire Training Officer of the Ohio Academy, David Torsell, says the training firefighters gives the trainees the opportunity to keep a closer eye on farmland and be prepared for emergency situations.

Fire Chief of Perry Township Fire Department, Rick Phillips, says the training allows everyone in Allen and Auglaize County to collaborate in the area to train the same and understand one another.

Another 25 firefighters will continue cart training on Saturday, November 2, 2013.
