The Ohio Senate has approved a proposal with bipartisan support to form a federal constructional convention which would amend the United States constitution to require a balanced budget.
Currently the U.S. borrows money from other countries and charges it like a credit card. Now the country is in a $17 trillion dollar deficit and 22 states want congress to be responsible with its money.
Ohio senators say it is time to put the heat on congress to live within its means to save future generations.
12 more states must agree on the balanced budget amendment to call for a convention.
