Lima Ohio -
Lima's City Jail closed its doors to inmates in 1992, but not before Kevin Martin started as a correctional officer in April of 1986. Now Chief of the Lima Police Department, Martin has mixed feelings about seeing the jail go for good.
Once remodeled and cleaned out, the space will be used as a LAN room for back up servers for the city, the evidence holding room will be expanded, and the I. D. Department will be expanded from 900 square feet to 3,300 square feet. More room allows for new equipment including dye staining.
Lima City Council has approved the renovations after months of talking about the city and police department's needs. The Lima Police Department offered the perfect space. The project is expected to be sent out for bids in 30 to 45 days, and is estimated at $1.8 million.
