It started with a community summit when Judge Glenn Derryberry issued a directive, "more needs to be done to meet the needs of young adults". And now, the Allen County Family and Children First Council has taken on the initiative and is implementing "Adolescence Committee". It's a program that is finding the gaps and addressing the needs of young adults. Part of the program is developing an interactive web site to inform kids and families of activities they can participate in. Part of their goal is to find activities between 3 and 7 PM, the time when kids are most likely to participate in risky behavior. Plans are also being made for scholarships, so kids will be able to pay for and participate in after-school activities. The web site is not up yet, but if you would like more information, you can reach FCFC on Facebook... Allen County Family and Children First Council.
