Grand Lake St. Mary's -
The Ohio Supreme Court ordered the state to compensate 87 landowners near Grand Lake St. Marys for flooding losses. Money settlements agreed upon are no where to be found. Million dollar settlements were agreed upon between the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the 87 land owners, many being farmers, around Grand Lake St. Marys.
Land owners are now saying the state is revoking previous financial deals and offering newer and lower offers. Following a settlement hearing in January of 2013, ODNR Director Jim Zehringer said the money to be paid out by the state doesn't exist at this time. He said work had to be done with legislators to make the payouts. On Wednesday, the Ohio Supreme Court ordered an April 30th hearing to hear the state's response.
