Putnam County, OH -
A Putnam County recycling initiative is paying off in a big way. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency awarded Putnam County commissioners with a $100,000 grant.
The glass residents throw into the recycling bins at Walmart are currently being dumped into the Hancock County Landfill. The cost for transportation and dumping, cost the county nearly $61.00 per ton, but that will soon change when a Dayton company starts collecting the glass that was once sent north. Dayton's Rumpkee Recycling will collect the glass for processing, paying Putnam County $2.00 per ton.
Money will be used to purchase glass collection bins, and upgrade the transfer station, by adding a new ramp.
