News Minute: Here is the latest Ohio news from The Associated Press at 7:40 a.m. EDT
WICKLIFFE, Ohio (AP) - Police say a 2-year-old girl has been accidentally shot and killed by her mother at a hotel outside of Cleveland. Wickliffe police in a statement say emergency crews were called to a hotel around 11 p.m. Friday. Police say the initial investigation indicates the woman was handling a firearm when it fired and struck the girl in the chest. Police say the mother legally possessed the handgun and had a concealed carry permit.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio crews cleaning up a former Cold War-era plant in Piketon, Ohio, plan to send a high-tech helper into pipes where uranium was processed for use in nuclear reactors and weapons. An autonomous, radiation-measuring robot made at Carnegie Mellon University will identify deposits left in pipes that require special remediation. Officials say it's safer, faster and more accurate than having workers take external measurements. They say it could save tens of millions of dollars on such cleanups.
HARTVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A 73-year-old Ohio man who has given conflicting stories about what happened to his wife's body has been charged with aggravated murder in her death. The Record-Courier reports Philip Snider was arrested Friday in the city of Hartville. Snider's 70-year-old wife has been missing since January. Snider initially told police he gave his wife's body to emergency workers after she died during a trip to Graceland in Memphis. Hartville's police chief won't say why investigators think Snider killed her.
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Police in the southwest Ohio city of Dayton say two people have been fatally shot outside of a nightclub. The victims have been identified as 29-year-old Darion Harris and 28-year-old Ashley James, both of Dayton. Dayton police say they were called to Ricky's Jazz Lab shortly after 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Harris and James were found inside a pickup truck parked outside the club.
