COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A late entrant into the Ohio governor's race is challenging the state elections chief's decision to keep him off the ballot because he lacks the required number of signatures on petitions. Democrat Jon Heavey late Wednesday called the signature review by Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted "rigged." Husted is GOP gubernatorial candidate Mike DeWine's running mate.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A state lawmaker says he's moving to force a thorough review of Ohio's medical marijuana program because of mistakes in selecting grower applicants. Republican Sen. Bill Coley, of Cincinnati, proposed legislation that would require State Auditor Dave Yost to conduct and release a performance audit of the program. The bill blocks the awarding of final grower, processor and tester licenses until program flaws can be addressed.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio man convicted of beating a 14-month-old boy to death and tossing his body into a creek with the help of the child's mother has been sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 19 years. A judge sentenced 27-year-old Kurt Flood on Thursday in Columbus. Jurors earlier found Flood guilty of charges including murder in Cameron Beckford's 2014 death. Flood testified he didn't beat the child but helped the mother dispose of the body. A message was left for his attorney.
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A display with silhouettes of bodies surrounded by crime scene tape depicting an Ohio school's sports victories has been removed. The display was put up at Belmont High School in Dayton and showed names of rival teams and phrases such as "Let the bodies hit the floor" and "Cap those Cougars," which some parents thought suggested gun violence. The schools superintendent says she had the display removed when she learned of it Tuesday but doesn't believe anyone was advocating violence.
