A local high school student has spent his summer saving up to give back. Skyler Tavenner, a senior at Indian Lake High School, saved up enough money to donate 12 hundred pounds of chicken to the West Ohio Food Bank. Tavenner says he's been working for the family business, but instead of spending his hard-earned cash on just anything, he asked his dad to hold the money, until he figured out what to do with it.  He eventually decided to use the money to give back to the food bank's senior program.

"The older generation, the sixty and plus, they really set us in motion for what we are today, and to see them struggle and go through these hardships I really just wanted to give back and try to make a positive influence on not only the people that are receiving it, but other younger people that can come out and maybe do the same thing," Tavenner said.

Workers at the food bank say they don't typically get donations directly for the senior program.

"I was completely surprised. I've been here eight years. We've never had a direct donation to just the senior program, so it was wonderful coming from a young person. We are trying to bridge that gap between the young and the older communities because a lot of our volunteers are older, so we need to get the word out there. So Skyler is a prime example of what it is that we need with our young folks," said Nikki Rainsburg, Programs Coordinator for the West Ohio Food Bank.

She says they plan to get the food out to all of the 1,404 senior citizens they serve, starting as soon as this Monday.
