Randall Bearings in Lima has used a grant from Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation to install a state of the art machine in their factory. The BWC awarded Randall Bearings a 40 thousand dollar Safety Intervention Grant. The Lima company used that money to help purchase some cutting edge technology.

"Collaborative robotic technology allows a worker to work in collaboration with the robotic arm," Human Resource Manager and Safety Coordinator at Randall Bearings, Mary Dupes, said

This robotic arm in essence works as an additional employee.

"It takes the work load and the repetitiveness out of the human factor and puts it into a mechanical means," Dupes said.

The companies 17-step manufacturing process is highly repetitive. The robot will help to reduce the possibility of a long-term severe injury caused by repetitive motion.

"Everybody's really excited about it," Dupes said.

It was implemented a couple months ago. And now, the company is being recognized by the BWC for their effort to protect employees from workplace injuries.

"The certificate that we gave them today is in recognition of Randall Bearing's devotion and interest in investing in a culture of safety," said Sarah Morrison, Administrator CEO with BWC.

The Ohio BWC has about 15 million safety grant dollars they give to employers each year. Officials with Randall Bearings tell us they are now looking at ways to use more robotic technology in the future.
