The Allen County Recorder's Office is getting some much needed work done but it might not be the work you're thinking of.

Millions of county real estate documents are being scanned and digitized. A representative from Cott Systems out of Columbus is at the office taking each binder apart, sending them through the machine and putting them back together. These documents are all pre-computer system of 1990 dating back to 1831. Commissioners approved the project in part to be able to move hundreds of binders stored in the courthouse to an off site location, to allow the office to become more efficient and to preserve the documents.

The scanner can read about 1,000 pages in 4 to 5 minutes. It should only take about 5 days to scan all the documents.
