The Ohio Attorney General's Office has logged more than 150 tax scams thus far in March and they are warning consumers that scammers are getting more frequent as the tax deadline approaches.

As we get further into tax season more and more consumers are reporting threatening phone calls from callers claiming to be the IRS asking for money. The ploy generally begins with a call claiming the recipient is in trouble with the IRS and must call a certain phone number at avoid legal action. The scam artists often ask people to pay using gift cards, instructing people to read the card numbers over the phone. Too avoid phone scams the Attorney Generals office says do not trust threatening callers, avoid making payments over the phone, and don't rely on caller ID.
