Wapakoneta, Ohio -

Plans are moving forward in Wapakoneta and the surrounding areas to soon see a boost to their cities central districts.

At Wapakoneta City Council Monday night, council members passed a motion for the city to be able to apply for a revitalization block grant. It will now be looking to meet recommendations from a consulting firm and design committee. This grant could be up to $300,000 to be split between cities in Auglaize County that want to apply for it. There's previously been a hold up in this grant coming to fruition.

"Twenty five years ago there was a grant that couldn't take place because too many people affected by it refused to participate. That's why the boundaries that are set are including the businesses that at this time replied yes, they thought we should participate, or they were neutral didn't care one way or the other," said Wapakoneta Council President Pro Tem, Bonnie Wurst.

Council will now wait to hear back from the consulting firm before moving further on this issue. Also at the meeting, council passed on its first reading the establishing of job titles and pay ranges for some city employees, of a 2 percent raise. Wurst pointed out that during the next two readings, that percentage could change at any time.
