Kids of all ages got a lesson in bicycle safety Saturday in Wapakoneta.

Bicycle Safety Day has been put on for the last nine years by Marlene Froning, who lost her son Keith in a bicycle accident back in 1983.  She wanted children to be safe on the streets while riding their bikes, so she started offering free helmets and bike repairs, and that eventually became the event it is today.  Children also could learn the rules of the road and how to maneuver their bikes in  a bicycle rodeo, which Froning considers one of the most important things to offer.

"I think a bike rodeo is something really important because we can put helmets on their head, but I think education is still the key to keeping our child safe," said Froning.  "I know that accidents still happen, because of course I lost Keith, but I want to protect them and I want to give them an extra chance."

Children could also get a close look at local race cars at the event.
