Several Lima City School students are letting go of something they helped nurture, in honor of their upcoming graduation.

Students of the Alternative Program released butterflies Monday morning. They started with caterpillars and took care of them as they transformed into the butterflies. The project is to symbolize the transformation these students have gone through to reach the point of their own graduation.

"Some of the students that we have in our program have overcome huge struggles in their lives and so the butterfly symbolizes their transformation from a caterpillar and then into a butterfly so that they can fly away and become productive members of our community," said building coach, Laura Warnement.

This is the fifth year the Alternative Program has released butterflies.
