The Putnam County Council on Aging has been celebrating older Americans for more than 40 years.

Tuesday the group encouraged seniors to "Age Out Loud" by honoring two women who have worked hard to give back to the Kalida community.

Mary Lou Merschman volunteers for the latchkey program and Meals on Wheels every week. Mary Kistler does her part as well. The two women were recognized with a plaque and a special performance by the OG show choir for all attendees. Mary Lou says she was surprised to be recognized.

"I really don't think I deserve it because I do a lot of stuff for other people, but I don't think I should be awarded for something I enjoy, but if they think I do - everybody else thinks I do, I guess I do," said Mary Lou Merschman, 2017 Outstanding Senior.

The Putnam County Council for Aging will be sponsoring the Putnam County Fair's Senior Citizen's Day on Monday, June 19.
