With inexperience on the road and with their cars, teenagers are very likely to get into accidents while driving. According to AAA, just over 49,000 Ohio teens experienced crashes in 2016, which led to 14,000 injuries and 127 deaths. That's why AAA decided to host a car check up for students at Allen East High School.

"We actually find a lot of errors with student vehicles, a lot of time we're missing fluids, tires are low," said Cindy Nelson, Sales Manager of AAA in Lima.  "If they don't know what to look for and they don't know what's important for their vehicle, it could be hazardous want to driving out on their own."

Many students aren't quite sure about everything that goes on under the hood of their cars, so having a check up helps them better understand. "Just to make sure everything safe and working good so I'm not getting into an accident or anything, making sure everything safe," said Remi Hampton, a junior at Allen East. "It was very confusing but I'm glad I got it checked."

AAA also had the students sign a pledge that they will avoid texting and driving - just another step to staying safe behind the wheel.

"We're actually out here with Damian Tibbs, the Student Resource Officer, he's talking with the kids about distracted driving, just really calling to attention the hazards that it can cause - even changing the station or looking at the phone when they're driving," Nelson said.
