The Lima Summer Parks Program kicked off Monday giving area youngsters a chance to stay active during summer break.

The program enrolls kids ages six through twelve to participate in activities throughout the summer. The program takes place at four parks around Lima including Faurot, Martin Luther King Jr. and Robb. This year they will serve more than 200 kids. The groups will visit Ohio State Lima Campus to learn about college life. They will also go swimming every Friday to cool off.

Ric Stolly, Lima's Public Works Director, says it's the highlight of the summer for the kids and volunteers as well. Spots are still left to sign up. those interested must go to the parks and recreation office.
