For Jonathan and Kami Hampton, looking to the organization Lots for Soldiers for a home didn’t seem like the real-deal at first.

"When I first heard of Lots for Soldiers, I thought it was kind of a too-good-to-be-true type of things and it turned out to be a really great organization that really cares about the veterans," Jonathan Hampton said.

But now, the town of Rockford is welcoming in the Hampton family after helping build a home for the couple and their young son with a house dedication and raising of the American flag.  Lots for Soldiers helps out military families by bringing the community together to build them a home on a donated residential lot, and it’s just a way to give back to those that have served or are serving now.

"We found a that there are a whole host of people out there that want to say thank you in some fashion for the veterans' service but they don't know how to do it, so we actually started to provide a way for them to say thanks," said Homer Burnett, Board President of Lots for Soldiers.

That community has been very warm towards Jonathan, who is a career counselor and recruiter for the Ohio National Guard and Kami, who is a licensed practical nurse - a community that they are excited to be a part of soon.

"We're looking forward to the community because they're a close knit community - both of us come from bigger communities, not really big cities, but bigger than this, where they're not as close knit," said Kami Hampton.

This is the second home that Lots for Soldiers has donated, and they’re planning to build more this coming fall.
