Law enforcement partner with Special Olympics athletes for Lima's first Torch Run

Every year law enforcement nationwide partner with the Special Olympics to raise money for the Olympic games. This is the first year for Lima.

Many of the runners will compete in the state Special Olympics this year. Monday afternoon they ran across Allen County alongside law enforcement to raise money for the games.  

The Lima leg of the event part of a statewide torch run brought to the city by of the Lima Police Department ending at the town square. 

Local sponsors like the Lima Rotary and St. Rita's were able to make things happen pretty quickly starting in March.  

After the runners crossed the finish line, the groups met at the convention center for lunch and a check presentation to benefit the state games. 

Most of the athletes will compete in Columbus for the state Special Olympics starting Friday.
