The Lima City Council approved hiring some temporary help for the LPD detectives bureau, but some council members were not happy with the way that it was handled.

Council passed an ordinance to hire a retired detective through a temp agency for a contract that was not to exceed $17,160.  But before the vote, council member noted they were not happy that the request came through a purchase order by the mayor and not through a formal request directly to council. The temporary detective position will only be for the purpose of doing background checks, especially for candidates who being considered to be Lima Police Department Officers. That will free other detectives to work cases. Second Ward Councilman Sam McLean agrees the detective bureau needs the help, but it's how the administration went about through this ordinance is what he has a problem with.

“It wasn’t the money amount; it’s the way they did it.  When you take a purchase order that was designed for purchases like equipment that they need and use if for employment, that’s what got me.” Says 2nd Ward Councilman Sam McLean. “Why wasn’t there communication between us.  All it took was a phone call to explain.  Doesn’t that make anyone wonder out herein Limaland?  Why don’t we get communication from our administration?  It amazes me.”
