The governor's decision to get rid of a Medicaid tax is putting Allen County in jeopardy of losing nearly one million dollars from its budget.

When the budget was first completed, it slashed $950,000 of Medicaid (managed care organization) tax from the county's reach. The Ohio House and Senate put it back in, but the governor vetoed that measure.  The House has already overrode that veto. Commissioners are now playing the waiting game, to see if the Senate will do the same.

Although if passed, the county would only be guaranteed about $600,000. Allen County Commissioner Greg Sneary said the county needs the money because it is still dealing with the effects of the 2008-09 recession.

"It is a major hit. We just try to do the things that the law prescribes that we're supposed to do. We are partners with the State of Ohio and we go by the Ohio Revised code whatever we have to do," said Sneary.

Commissioner Sneary said while the Senate decides whether to override the governor's veto, they are deciding what departments will lose funding.
