The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday voted in bipartisan fashion, 344 to 81, to pass the 696 billion dollar 2018 National Defense Authorization Act.

Included in that bill is 1.8 billion dollars to produce the next generation of military vehicle at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center. The funding will be for the newest version of the Abrams Tanks and builds on the funding that has kept the manufacturing facility operating for the past few years to make sure the workers at JSMC are in place when the United States Army was ready to roll out the new Abrams Tank.

According to Senator Rob Portman, the funding will allow the United States to be able to deliver the world's most capable battle tank to our deployed soldiers and will also increase the rate of production. There will also be some funding to do upgrades to the Stryker vehicles, which some of that work will be done at the JSMC and Lima Mayor David Berger says the recent announcements about both funding proposals for Stryker updates and Abrams funding indicates that congress is thinking long term.

Senator Portman feels that in today's dangerous global security environment, the work being done in Lima is even more important to accomplishing national security efforts around the world.
