The escalating situation with North Korea has been a stressful situation for not only Americans, but for South Koreans as well.

According to Nusta Carranza Ko, assistant professor of political science at Ohio Northern University and former resident of South Korea, the recent situation between the US and North Korea has those in the south a little on edge.  Ko says that the United States needs a supporting message for South Korea alongside the condemnation of the north, and that countries like the United States and Japan have been painted as enemies by the North Korean government to influence the population.

"Fear is the thing that has been used by that regime to govern up to now - so that's from '53 up to now - they have been using fear, and with fear you need to have a very good enemy to be able to invoke this continuous fear among the population," Ko said.

Ko says that the entire situation will require a multi-national strategy and understanding of East Asia.
