Every year, the Allen County Fair Parade takes over downtown Lima as a way to get people excited for the fair.

"It's our kick off for the fair and it's a week early this year again just to let everyone know that the fair is coming, our 167th annual Allen County Fair will start next Friday, so what better way to do it then kick it off with a parade today, and get everybody excited about coming out to the fair," said Bob Fricke, fair manager.

There were all kinds of different entries in this year's fair, from high school marching bands to classic cars to the Forest Park United Methodist Church, who collected food donations as they made their way down the parade route.

This year's parade marshal was Don Miner, who was a long time maintenance manager for the fair, and he says it's an honor to be able to be chosen for this year's fair parade.

"I appreciate everybody that came out for voted for or nominated me, it's really a pleasure to hang out here with these people, with some of them that I've been with for years out there when I was the maintenance manager," Miner said.

A big part of the fair parade is for the people walking the route to be able to see their fellow fair members before the hard work that is the fair itself begins.

"It's a chance that everybody gets together to showcase the hard work they've done and get together before the fair, because the fair is hectic for everybody with the kids are showing and all the exhibits going on," Fricke said.  "Having it here in downtown Lima lets our community see what they can look forward to."

Events at the Allen County Fair officially start Friday, August 18th.
