The Lima Noon Optimist Club met on Wednesday to see some of the newest updates to Safety City.

This partnership between the Lima Noon Optimists and the Lima Police Department to create safety city began in 1976 and has benefited thousands of school age children with safety training though programs during the summer.

Members of the club got to take a tour of the newest addition to Safety City, the "Survive Alive House". Safety City Officer Matt Douglass says the Alive House will be used for teaching local kids about storm, fire, and tornado safety among other things.

Douglass says it's great to see the continuing efforts of the Optimist Club because it definitely make a difference in the community.

"Normally our Lima Noon Optimist meetings are held at the Civic Center and they wanted to just have a change of paced type meeting and come out here so a lot of the club members can see some of the new updates that they've had out here at Safety City in the recent years," says Douglass.

Safety City offers camps through out the summer and school trips in the spring. Also, during their meeting the Optimist Club also took a trip down memory lane as they viewed old pictures of previous and current club members throughout the years.
