The summer of 2017 has been a positive one for Auglaize and Mercer counties when it comes to tourism.

Donna Grube, the executive director of the Auglaize and Mercer Visitors Bureau, was the guest speaker at the St. Marys Rotary Luncheon Wednesday afternoon, giving an update tourism in the area for this summer. She said that 2016 was a record year for tourism in the two counties, with tourists bringing in about 200 million dollars, and the summer of 2017 was a success as well.

"2017 was a very good year for tourism; we had lots of water in the lake, and that makes a difference - we kind of had a drought in 2016 and folks started to take their boats out toward the end of July, but we had a lot of water in the lake, and people are using it," Grube said.  "Most of our fairs and festivals didn't have a lot of rain issues, we had good weather all summer long, that's really important in tourism."

Grube also discussed future events that will be happening within the next few years.
