Interstate-75 through Findlay consists of nothing but orange cones, concrete stanchions, and construction equipment. When looking at a specific area before exit 159 by the Blanchard River, construction crews work to install a 21 by 40 feet steel arch as part of a bridge reconstruction. The purpose being flood mitigation.

“When the Blanchard River rises, this acts as a spillway for the water. So this is being put back in to mitigate floods. To keep any water from rising any more than it currently does to try and mimic what's currently out here.”

This project also consists of demolishing the highway above.

“There will be a profile adjustment to take the hump out of the road so it will be a little more level. I think it's two to three feet the road itself will get leveled.”

The demolition comes with an expectation of traffic shifts starting at the beginning of October.

“The southbound lanes of traffic will shift from the outside lane to the inside lane. That will probably take a week or two. Come mid-October, you'll see traffic shifted. Then, 224 ramps on southbound will close. Those will close for drainage and reconstruction purposes.”

The completion for this bridge project is expected to coincide with the 2020 deadline of the entire I-75 project. Despite the time frame, some areas are still expected to open back up shortly.

“To the South end of the project you have Harrison Street, which is currently being erected now. The steel beams are being set. The intent is to get that opened here by winter and get traffic back on it. The Blanchard River beams will be next. Those will probably be set around October with intent of opening that bridge somewhere around December, and getting traffic on it.”
