For the last five years, people from around the region have come to Lima to participate in the annual Auto Growth Summit.  It's put on to help people in the industry reach out to community, and to try and keep interest and jobs in the regional auto industry.  The summit was held at Rhodes State College this year and is just one of the things that the local auto task force, put on by Mayor Berger, does through the year - and it's something that the center for automotive research has kept their eyes on.

"We find Lima to be a fantastic role model for other communities, particularly because of this kind of outreach, because it takes so many stakeholders to get and attract the automotive industry," said Bernard Swiecki, the Senior Project Manager for the Center for Automotive Research.  "The task force that the mayor has put together here is really our model for other communities to how to do it, so this kind of event is a perfect example of how that comes together and how can you can become involved in what the government is doing."

The summit invited all kinds of different people in the automotive and related industries to talk about what they do, from training students to making ambulances.

"When we get to tell our story about what we're doing in Van Wert and our building ambulances across the country, it's a really proud moment to share that, but to collaborate with other people that are sharing the same challenges and growth strategies, especially when it relates to workforce, it's a great opportunity to be part of that," said Kim Braun, president of Braun Industries.

This level of outreach is something that the center for automotive research says that auto makers are always looking for.  "We deal with the car companies and suppliers all the time and we hear so much about how they want the level of community engagement, they want to know the community values their presence and so these kinds of events, this kind of outreach, that has the community and these companies is huge," said Swiecki.
