Hundreds of people gathered at Ohio State Lima's campus for one unified purpose - a walk to raise awareness and money to help end Alzheimer's disease in West Central Ohio.  The walk is put on by the Alzheimer's Association and is the world's largest event to raise awareness for the disease, which often is forgotten about compared to other diseases.

"We are seeing more and more of a focus on Alzheimer's and dementia, and we need much more in order to be able to bring enough an awareness to support the people who have it, support the people who are doing the care out there on their own doing it, and then research - more for the government to be aware that people care about this," said Cheryl Conley, program director for the Alzheimer's Association.

People who participated in the walk held flowers with different meanings behind them, denoting why they were there - and seeing so many people in the same situation can bring some hope and comfort for those that have Alzheimer's or know someone who does.

"The support between people that are afflicted, families, my husband is part of transitions group which is for the patients, which there's very few units like that," said Kay Wren, whose mother, brother, and husband have been affected by Alzheimer's.  "It's a hard disease; there's a lot of ups and downs and it's just scary - you don't know what's around the corner."

The walk last year raised over $41,000 in Lima alone, and over $76 million nationwide.
